Georgia sends delegation to Geneva
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaA Georgian delegation headed by First Deputy Foreign Minister Giorgi Bekeriyahas left for Geneva today to take participation in negotiations on conflict prevention in the Caucasus, Georgia Online reports.
The 12th round of talks will be held on July 27. Prior to the session, the co-chairs of the Geneva negotiations - Pierre Morel (the EU), Antti Turunnen (the UN) and Bulat Nurgaliev (the OSCE), along with the participants in the talks, examined the situation in the conflict areas and the issue of missing and detained people, as well as humanitarian issues. Following the negotiations, the co-chairs called on sides to renew talks on conflict prevention in the region of South Ossetia. The talks have been on hold since October 2009.
Giorgi Bakeria said the Georgian side doesn't expect much from the meeting.
"Moscow's politics give rise to pessimism and aim to wreck the talks - what's more, prompted by Moscow, separatists from Sukhumi and Tshinvali announced their refusal to take part in the negotiations, but later changed mind" he noted.
Moscow, Sukhumi and Tskinvali announced their demand that Georgia sign an agreement on the non-use of force. The Georgian side is ready for the deal, but only with Russia, as Tbilisi holds Moscow responsible for the 2008 conflict.
