US secretary of state discusses Syria in Russia

US Secretary of State John Kerry has discussed the crisis in Syria with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow. Kerry said that both states have common interests in Syria and should enforce regional stability and fight extremism together, according to the Geneva Communiqué, RIA Novosti reports.

The sides will convince Syrian opposition and government to start negotiations. Russia and the US support Syrian territorial integrity.

Kerry said that the US will only send weapons to Syrian opposition if international inspectors find prove that President Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons. US President Barack Obama ordered a scrupulous investigation of the case.

Russia and the US will study reports about deployment of chemical weapons in Syria together.
