Russia wants conference on Syria under auspices of UN

The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said, at a press conference after meeting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Sochi, that the upcoming conference for Syria should be held under the auspices of the UN, RIA Novosti reports.

Lavrov said that he had discussed preparations for the conference with Ki-moon.

He added that the idea to organize the conference had been formed during a visit by US Secretary of State John Kerry in Moscow on May 8 and gained the support of many countries.
