A gay pride parade held today in the Georgian capital Tbilisi ended in violence, Ekho Moskvy reports.

Several thousands of far-right activists arrived in down-town Tbilisi in order to break up the demonstration. Police forces tried to prevent clashes but failed, and some 16 people were injured in fighting.

Georgian ombudsman Acha Nanuashvili was also present at the event and tried to pacify the attackers, but was forced to leave the place under the protection of police officers.
