Businessman shot dead in Ankara does not represent interests of Chechen Republic
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe businessman Medet Unlyu who was shot dead in Ankara did not represent the interests of Chechnya in Turkey, the press secretary of the head of the Republic, Alvi Karimov, said. According to the Turkish BBC, Medet Unlyu declared himself an "honorary consul" of the so-called Republic of Ichkeria, and allegedly was appointed by the Chechen separatists fighting against Russia.
"We have not even heard of it. I am not sure what kind of "consul " or what kind of Ichkeria this is about, he could not have represented anyone," Karimov said. "This crime has been committed in Turkey, and as far as we know, against a national of that country. It has nothing to do with Chechnya, and I am sure that the police in this country will do their work professionally to investigate this murder," Karimov concluded.
As previously reported, the murder took place yesterday in Ankara. The businessman was attacked by two men, one of whom was driving a car and kept watch, the other is likely to have shot a pistol with a silencer. The perpetrators were captured by a surveillance camera at the entrance to the businessman's office, RIA News reports. Earlier, the Turkish Foreign Ministry also denied that Medet Unlyu was the honorary consul of Chechnya in Turkey.
