Mikhail Prokhorov and his friends to help children

The head of Civic Platform, Mikhail Prokhorov, and Alla Pugachyova, who is a member of the Federal Civic Committee of the party, reported on the establishment of a charity fund which will help with the problems faced by orphans and sick children.

According to Alla Pugachyova, “the problem of childhood and orphanage, especially the problem of sick children really stirs up the society. After the “anti-orphanage” law of Dima Yakovlev we agreed that the party will help children who couldn’t be adopted by parents from the USA due to this law. We decided that each family which will adopt a sick person will receive help in settlement of his or her problems. It includes treatment payments, including treatment abroad. We will have serious consultations, talks, and settlement of the problem for every child. But it appeared that the information on children whose adoption is frozen is absolutely closed; and we cannot receive the information. Mikhail Prokhorov wrote a letter to the ombudsman on children rights Pavel Astakhov, asking to give the information on these children for we all could help them to find parents. Yet, we haven’t received an answer. So, we decided to deal with the problem of adopting sick children by ourselves.”

“There is a queue for healthy children, but nobody wants to adopt sick children,” Pugachyova says. “If a family appears, it is a rare diamond. These people are sainst and unique. Of course, some newspapers talked a lot about the material support of $50,000 to each family… They are not insane. Do you understand how many crazy people will want to get the money and not spend it for a child’s treatment? It should be realized. Each family should be tested; spending should be controlled.”

Answering the question by Vestnik Kavkaza on whether the support would be provided for children in the Caucasus, Mikhail Prokhorov said: “We don’t divide our country into regions. They are all our children. If there are cases which match the activity of our fund, we will for sure help them.”

According to Prokhorov, “all problems can be settled only by an efficient state. So, our political party, caring people decided to be responsible for the most difficult part. Firstly, we want to change the ideology of our society toward sick children who are left without parents. Secondly, we want to encourage adoption of sick children and will help people who adopt sick children. We will consider every case separately and help exclusively to such parents. Thirdly, we will provide social adaptation in orphan houses for establishing special rehabilitation centers for children of the fifth health group. At the moment, it is not only my money, but also money of my supporters. We have collected about 60 million rubles. 15 million rubles have already been sent to certain families.”
