Controversial reports are coming in from the Southern Kyrgyz city of Dzhalal-Abad, where protesters have captured the city centre and elected their own governor.

The Kyrgyz government's envoy to the city says the situation has stabilised, but the newly-elected rebel leader says the protesters won't surrender and plans to establish rebel police forces.
