Struggle against terrorism to go on – Medvedev
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaRussia will continue the fight until the end against terrorism, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said on Monday after two blasts killed at least 37 people in the Moscow metro, reports ITAR-TASS.
“First of all we have to help the families of the dead,” he said at an emergency meeting, adding that it was clear the bombings were the work of terrorists.
The Russian president also said that the state prosecutor and investigators should “gather all the evidence and carry out a thorough investigation.”
“The struggle against terrorism will go on,” Medvedev vowed said. “We will continue relentlessly our operations against terrorism until the end.”
He also ordered the security services to take control of the situation, saying the attacks were “well-planned.”
“It is difficult to prevent such terrorist attacks and to provide security on transport," Medvedev said. "It is necessary to tighten up what we do and to look at the problem on a national scale.
"Obviously, what we have done before is not enough," he said.
The first attack occurred just before 8:00 a.m. (4:00 GMT) at the Lubyanka station. That bomb took the lives of 24 people. The second, which happened some 40 minutes later at the nearby Park Kultury station, killed another 12. One more person is reported as having died in the bombings. The total number of injured in both blasts is over 60, RIA Novosti reported.
