Rebels take control over checkpoint on Golan Heights

Syrian oppositions has taken control over the Kuneitra checkpoint on the Israeli-Syrian border at the Golan Heights for the first time since the start of the civil war in January 2011, RIA Novosti reports.

About a thousand UN peacekeepers have been station in the area since the 1970s.
