Turkish police forces clashed with protesters in Istanbul's Osmanbey and Sisli districts hours after Taksim Square and Gezi Park were cleared of demonstrators, Euronews reports.

The police used tear gas and water cannon to disperse the protesters. Some local residents showed support for the activists by banging pots outside their windows and beeping their car horns, the TV channel informs.

Several thousands of people gathered for a peaceful protest in the country's capital Ankara to show support for the demonstrators in Istanbul and to stand against the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
