Anna Netrebko and Dmitry Hvorostovsky were excited about the concert

The concert of the world opera stars Dmitry Hvorostovsky and Anna Netrebko will take place on the Red Square on June 19th. This project is an event of world-scale significance. For the first time in the history of the Russian classic music the prominent duet will perform in its motherland. Svetlanov State Orchestra will accompany the performance of two best voices of the planet. The general sponsor of the performance is VTB Bank. Ahead of the concert a press conference took place. Famous artists admitted that they were excited about the performance. A special program was chosen for Moscow.

The first part is Verdi because it is the year of Verdi, the 200th anniversary. And we decided to devote the first part of the program to this outstanding composer. I believe his music will sound wonderfully on the Red Square. The second half includes Verdi, verism, and Tchaikovsky.

Anna chose her own repertoire. These will be rather new works for her: for instance, Il Trovatore, Andre Chenier, and of course Onegin. Recently I have seen Anna’s debut as Tatyana. I was her first Onegin, and I am very proud of it. It was fantastic. I am very happy Anna has chosen this duet for our concert. It will be the final of our concert.

The briefing touched on the scandal in the Bolshoi Theatre. Ana Netrebko commented the situation on dismissal of Tsiskaridze. According to her, if everybody is dismissed and everything is changed, probably it will have any effect in this theatre. Dmitry Hvorostovsky thinks that the situation is logical: “This is the fate of any repertoire theatre. When the brightest stars work in this theater for two, three, four years, they turn into spiders in a can. I have said it before: any artist, including a ballet artist, needs fresh air. So, I wish the system would change.”
