Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili has demanded the resignation of Georgian chief prosecutor Archil Kbilashvili. Mikheil Saakashvili told reporters that Kbilashvili had violated the European Convention when he freed the author of a scandalous prison video, Vladimir Bedukadze, from criminal responsibility.

"This person himself was involved in the violence and filmed everything to sell it and give to the opposition," he said. "I know who bought the footage, why it was hidden for a year and given to TV right before the elections," Trend quotes the president.

Saakashvili said that Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili must submit a petition on the chief prosecutor's resignation and that he will sign it.

"Otherwise, all the Prime Minister's statements that he condemns Kbilashvili's decision will remain empty words, I am waiting for the resignation of the chief prosecutor," Saakashvili said.

The Georgian Chief Prosecutor authorised the exemption of the author of the scandalous video from torture and abuse in Georgian prisons, Vladimir Bedukadze, from criminal responsibility.
