Former Russian spy chief appointed South Ossetia's defense minister

The president of South Ossetia, Eduard Kokoity, has appointed the Hero of Russia Valery Yakhnovets as the republic's minister of defense, Interfax reports.

Valery Yakhnovets, 50, is a former chief of the Russian Airborne Troops' intelligence service.
