President of Russia Vladimir Putin will officially visit Azerbaijan in the very near future. The president's press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, told Vestnik Kavkaza that the date hadn’t been determined yet, but preparations were underway.

Commenting on the upcoming visit, the editor-in-chief of Vestnik Kavkaza Alexei Vlasov stated: “Azerbaijan is the leading power in the South Caucasus and the Caspian region; that is why relations between Russia and this country are of high importance. There is no doubt. Moreover, the role of Azerbaijan in providing stability is impossible to overstress. The importance of the Caspian region will grow in the future, and relations between Moscow and Baku will be one of the main components of stable development. It means oil-and-gas projects, a complex of trade and economic affairs. I believe the energetic dialogue and prospects of cooperation in the Caspian region will be at the center of attention of the two leaders.”

According to Vlasov, the presidents won’t just discuss economic issues: “There are a lot of problems to discuss. The other important topic is the situation over Iran. Considering the upcoming meeting between Vladimir Putin and the new president of Iran, there are many serious topics for discussion. At the same time, new topics will probably appear. We shouldn’t forget about a new powerful resource – cooperation between civil societies, educational and youth structures. I think this sphere can be discussed by Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev.”
