Azerbaijan to make historical research of Caspian seabed

The preparation is being held in the studies center of the naval forces, Trend reports, citing the head of the Absheron expedition and member of the Institute of Archeology of the Azerbaijani Academy of Sciences, Idris Aliyev.
The project is being realized by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, assisted by the Ministry of Defense. The Ministry of Culture and Tourism is actively working to join the UNESCO convention protecting underwater memorials.
Aliyev said that Azerbaijan lacks experienced specialists with physical skills and historical knowledge.
The latest research of the Caspian Sea bed uncovered the existence of an underground city in the bay of the village of Byyil, the remains of the ancient city of Mugan in the Salyan region in Shirvan national park and the remains of a vessel on Sangi-Mugan Island.
Aliyev said that Mugan was a 12th-century city with many monuments. The researchers are also looking for traces of Stepan Razin in Absheron, as well as ancient Russians and Normans.
