World press on new Iranian president (August 3, 2013)
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Jerusalem Post published an article headlined "Rouhani takes office as Iran's president after Khamenei's endorsement."
"Iranian supreme leader hands reins to Ahmadinejad's successor; experts say the economic problems Rouhani is inheriting are "staggering," unlikely he can fix economy without easing of sanctions," the author writes.
"Rouhani's resounding election win in June raised hopes of a negotiated end to the dispute over Iran's nuclear program That would avert a possible new war in the Middle East," the article reads.
'The start of Rouhani's presidency puts an end to Ahmadinejad's eight years in office during which Iran grew more isolated and came under wide-ranging United Nations, US and European Union sanctions over its nuclear program, putting enormous pressure on the economy," the article reads.
"Rouhani faces huge challenges, including combating inflation he put last month at 42 percent, bringing down high unemployment and bridging the political divisions between conservative, moderate and reformist factions."
