Armenia expects grain deficit

There is no information on the amount of wheat reserved in Armenia. The head of the PR department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Vaagn Martirosyan, confirmed that the republic the prices for wheat rose dramatically in the republic, Panorama.ru reports.

Martirosyan said that Armenia produces enough grain for 2.5-3 months, the rest of demand is covered by import. Armenia traditionally imports 300-400 thousand tons of grain from Russia annually, sometimes from Ukraine.

Martirosyan said that determining the country for import is not in the power of his ministry. Private sector is working on the issue.

Martirosyan said that Armenia will not hunger. The Russian government decided to introduce a temporary ban for grain export since August 15th, Vladimir Putin said.
