Juravli Festival to mark 90th anniversary of Gamzatov
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe Juravli Ethno-Cultural and Tourism Festival in Dagestan will mark the 90th anniversary of poet and public figure Rasul Gamzatov on September 2-9, ITAR-TASS reports.
Students and pupils of the North Caucasian Federal District and other regions of Russia will attend the contests, competitions in mountain biking and jeeping. The festival will be concluded with a concert.
Gamzatov was born in Tsada (Dagestan) on September 8, 1923. He started writing verses at the age of 9. He has written dozens of books of poetry, prose in the Avar and Russian languages. He died on November 3, 2003, and was buried in Tarki, at the mountain of Tarki-Tau. A memorial for the poet was opened at the Yauza Boulevard in Moscow in July 2013.
