"After the chemical attack launched in the outskirts of Damascus on August 21 the statements made by Western governments showed that the response would come immediately," Liberation writes.

"A week ago it seemed like the military operation was being planned, but would not come right away. From the technical point of view the United States, the United Kingdom and France are ready for an attack. but they are not ready from the point of view of diplomacy and politics," the article reads.

According to the author, the UK and France are not going to act without any international sanction and the UN Security Council's resolution seems unlikely to be adopted as Russia and China won't probably support such a move.

While the White House is preparing for a strike, Russia has started its own game in the Middle East, with Russian ships entering the Mediterranean Sea, Julia Ioffe writes in her article in the New Republic.

Ioffe doesn't believe that Russia will actually use its fleet in the region. According to her, Russia is not interested in a serious conflict with the United States.

Russia will not respond to a US strike, Ioffe cites scientist Georgy Mirsky as saying. Russia will wait and watch how the United States gets involved in a new bloody war in the Middle East, the expert says.
