US secretary of state rules out ground operation in Syria

US Secretary of State John Kerry said that there will be no ground operation in Syria and requested sanctions to prevent Syrian President Bashar al-Assad from using chemical weapons, RIA Novosti reports.

US President Barack Obama decided to attack Syria last week, approved by ex-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The US Senate Committee for International Affairs proposed a 60-day military operation yesterday. Such operation could be extended to 90 days.

The final decision is expected on September 9.
