Experts discuss possible US military operation in Syria
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaAs the US operation in Syria is approaching, Vestnik Kavkaza decided to discuss any possible strike with military experts. Former chief of military intelligence, General Sergey Kanchukov, director of the Strategy and Technology Analysis Centre Ruslan Pukhov and chief editor of the magazine Air and Space Defense Mikhail Khodaryonok talked to the news agency.
According to Sergey Kanchukov, the operation will be tough one. The Syrian missile defense shield will be a serious obstacle for the US air forces. It won't be as easy as in Libya, the expert says.
He also believes that the operation will be very costly. Every missile costs about $2 million, which means that even a limited strike, involving some 1000 missiles, will cost $2 billion, he says.
At the same time, Mikhail Khodarenko thinks that resistance will be minimum. The US air forces are much better equipped and use much more advanced technologies. The Syrian forces will have no chance, he says.
According to Ruslan Pukhov, the strike will lead to a major crisis in the Middle East, increase tensions between Sunni and Shiite Muslims and force many countries to seek nuclear weapons to resist foreign intervention.
Soon after the operation in Syria the United States will attack Iran, he says.
