The police used water cannons and tear gas. Several people were injured. About a hundred people gathered at the Avenue of Ismet Pasha and lit fires. They refused to leave the place.
The demonstration was organized against plans of the government to build a highway through forests of the territory of the Middle East Technical University. Some observers fear that the demonstration may trigger protests similar to the ones over the Gezi Park in Istanbul.
