CEC of Azerbaijan registers new candidate

At Monday's meeting of the Azerbaijani Central Electoral Commission (CEC), self-nominated candidate Zahid Oruj was officially registered as a presidential candidate.

The plenipotentiary representatives of Oruj were also registered at the meeting.

The receipt of documents began on August 20.

The chairman of the New Azerbaijan party, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, and the chairman of the Umid party, Igbal Agazade, have already been registered as presidential candidates.

As of the morning of September 9, 21 candidacies had been approved.

Presidential elections in Azerbaijan are scheduled for October 9. Previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008.
