Russian and Iranian presidents meet in Bishkek

Russian President Vladimir Putin met today with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani in the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation's summit held in Bishkek. 

According to President Putin, Russia is interested in successful cooperation between the two states. 

"We are aware of the tensions surrounding the Iranian nuclear programme. However, in Russia we also know another thing. We know that Iran is our neighbour, a good neighbour," Putin said.
