In a speech at the meeting of the Collective Security Treaty Organization today Russian President Vladimir Putin underlined that the organization cannot ignore the situation in Syria.

"The CSTO cannot ignore such a serious problem as the Syrian conflict. Gangs operating on the territory of that state don't come out of nowhere and they won't go anywhere. The problem of overflow of terrorism from one country to another is very real and can directly affect the interests of any of our countries," Interfax quoted his speech.

As an example of this phenomenon, the president cited the recent events in Kenya, where a terrorist attack on a shopping center in the capital, Nairobi, killed 69 people.

Returning to the Syrian issue, the president emphasized the need to develop a common position on this issue. "It is necessary to develop common approaches to this problem, which will be reflected in the CSTO member states statement on Syria," Putin said.
