A. Zotov: Syria is important to Russia

Russian Ambassador to Syria, the special representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Bosnian settlement in 1990s, Alexander Zotov told about the role of Syria which it plays in the life of Russia. According to the expert, Syria is now very important for Russia, as well as it was for the USSR. The dramatic situation in Syria in recent years is of a major concern in Russia which is making a lot of efforts to help resolving this issue. Indeed, the conflict between the official authorities and the opposition in Syria began in March 2011, when riots against President Bashar al-Assad turned into an armed confrontation.
