The head of the press department of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) of Azerbaijan, Azer Saryev, announced today that Azerbaijani citizens absent from their places of permanent residence on the day of the presidential election may vote by absentee ballot at the actual place of residence or location.

This rule applies to the entire territory of the country. Absentee ballots are issued on the basis of a statement by the voter himself or his representative on the basis of a notarized power of attorney. The ballots are also valid for voting at polling stations set up in the country's embassies and consulates abroad.

The presidential elections are scheduled for October 9, 2013.
