Russia shows high birth rate
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaSvetlana Nikitina, head of the Department for Statistics of the Population and Healthcare of the Russian Statistical Agency, said that republics of the North Caucasus and Tyva had high birth rates. She noted that the average birth rate in the country totaled 1.7 children per woman.
The official said that the country needed at least 2.15 children per woman to gain a positive demographic trend. Migration helps prevent the dropping population which is predicted to reach 140 million in 2030.
Nikitina added that the authorities were planning to reduce migration to 200,000-250,000 a year. Another version of migration is 500,000 people a year. She concluded that the migration flow coincided with the figures set in the Russian concept of demographic policy until 2025.
