Muslims mark Eid al-Adha
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaMuslims are marking Eid al-Adha, the end of Hajj. Everyone making Hajj this year went to Mount Arafat yesterday and will make tawaf today. Every Muslim will sacrifice a ram or other domestic animals as homage for the test Allah made for Ibrahim.
Muslims gathered at the Moscow Cathedral Mosque and started prayers at 9.00am. Sheikh Ravil Gaynutdin, head of the Russian Council of Muftis, urged people to live in peace and consent, as well as cooperate with followers of other religions.
Russian President Vladimir Putin called the conclusion of pilgrimage an important part of the spiritual heritage of the multinational country. He said that it had a deep ethic sense and joy to strengthen faith and spirit.
All sacrifices in Moscow this year were moved to special platforms in the region. The local authorities promised to prevent any provocations. The police patrols were doubled on the streets.
