Istanbul to host 22nd World Petroleum Congress

The World Petroleum Council in Calgary has chosen Istanbul as the host city of the 22nd World Petroleum Congress which will take place in 2017, the Russian National Committee of World Petroleum Council reports.

Houston , Astana, Copenhagen and Istanbul were the cities fighting for the right to host the event. Many experts favored Houston, which is putting forward its candidacy already for the second time (prior to that, Houston lost to Moscow, which will host the next, 21st congress). In the end, Istanbul scored 55 % of the vote while Houston - 45 %.
The 21st World Petroleum Congress will be held from June 15-19, 2014 in Moscow and will be the largest event in the industry attended by a record number of participants - over 6 thousand people from more than 100 countries.
