Police of Turkey’s Nusaybin drives off protesters

The police of Nusaybin, a city in the south-eastern part of Turkey, has driven off demonstrators protesting against construction of a wall on the Turkish-Syrian border, RIA Novosti reports.The construction started in mid-October. Locals and members of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party have been protesting against it, only to face crackdowns. Turkish Foreign Minister Muammer Guler denied the construction at first, but then he said that the wall was built for border security. Nusaybin Mayor Ayse Gokhan started a hunger strike on November 1.A group of young people sitting at the city center as a sign of protest was driven off with water cannons. Other protesters suffered from water cannons, plastic bullets and tear gas. The demonstrators responded with Molotov cocktails thrown at the police.Mayor Gokhan ended the strike on Thursday.
