Georgia should enhance transit, experts say
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaVestnik Kavkaza discussed prospects of enhancing transit for Georgia with Georgian experts Petre Mamradze, the head of the Governing Strategy Institute, and David Berdzenishvili, the head of the republican faction in the Georgian parliament.
According to Mamradze, Georgia isn't fully using its capacity as a transit nation. If it wasn't for the 2008 war, Georgia would play a much more important role in transit and the whole political situation in the region would be different, the expert believes.
The country should increase its economic role in the region and improve its economic ties with Azerbaijan, Armenia and Turkey, he says.
According to Berdzenishvili, Georgia's prospects as a transit country are really great. The country isn't fulfilling its potential due to the 2008 war with Russia. The lawmaker also condemns President Saakashvili for his unwise policy towards Russia, which, according to him, has undermined Georgia's economic position in the region.
