London and Berlin support sanctions against Iran

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Gordon Brown favoured imposition of tougher sanctions against Iran in connection with its nuclear program. Both leaders said that they support the imposition of sanctions entirely, and will  continue соnsulting with their allies over this issue. They made a joint statement after talks at Gordon Brown's residence.

In doing so, the two leaders supported similar attitudes expressed earlier this week in Washington by President Barack Obama and his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy.
