Gazprom starts building South Stream in Serbia

Gazprom started opening up the Serbian section of the South Stream Pipeline yesterday. Serbian President Tomislav Nikolic attended the ceremony at Sajkas, Interfax reports.The Serbian section will be split into branches that go to Croatia and the Republic of Srpska.Gazprom is also negotiating construction of pipeline branches to Macedonia and Kosovo, said Serbian Prime Minister Ivica Dacic. Over 60% of gas of South Stream will be transported through Serbia.Gazprom head Alexey Miller said that South Stream will end transit risks and guarantee stable gas deliveries in Serbia and Europe. It will make Serbia the center of transit, storage and distribution of gas in Europe, he added.
