Ukraine's PM condemns violence against protesters, Poland angry over reporter's beating

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov condemns police violence against protesters on Kyiv's Independence Square, the press secretary of the head of the Ukrainian cabinet says.

The protesters started a rally after President Viktor Yanukovych had officially refused to sign the associate membership agreement with the EU. The rally was broken up by the riot police today at around 3 am local time. 35 people were reportedly arrested, 40 injured and hospitalized.

Among those beaten by the police were Polish nationals - a reporter and a businessman. The Polish Foreign Ministry has already summoned the Ukrainian Ambassador to Warsaw and demanded an official explanation.

The violence has also been condemned by the EU and the US.
