Representatives of Tehran, six international mediators, and the IAEA will meet in Vienna on December 9-10 to discuss the fulfillment of intermediate accords signed by Iran and the ‘5+1’ in late November. On December 11 a meeting between Iran’s delegation and the IAEA is scheduled; they will choose a date for a visit by the agency’s inspectors to the uranium mine in Gachin.
Meanwhile, after the November accords, Washington promised to halt sanctions against Iranian oil exports for 6 months. According to Secretary of State John Kerry, “China, India, South Korea, Turkey, and Taiwan reduced import of Iranian oil significantly. Malaysia, South Africa, Singapore, and Sri Lanka do not import Iranian oil at all. All these countries won’t suffer American sanctions against purchasers of Iranian oil during the next 180 days.”
President of Iran Hassan Rouhani expressed his hope for improvement of relations with the U.S.A., but he excluded the possibility of elimination of Iranian nuclear facilities.
At the same time, Premier of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the national intelligence agency (Mossad) and the Directorate of Military Intelligence (Aman) to find convincing evidence by May 2014 that Iran violates conditions of the Geneva accords and continues working on nuclear power. Netanyahu stressed that the evidence would lead to the fact that in a half of a year signing of an agreement with Iran would be “knocked down like a house of cards.”
“I don’t believe that Iran will stop working on a nuclear bomb. It has invested billions into the nuclear program and won’t stop it suddenly. Tehran’s aim is to become a superpower, and it cannot reject the goal,” he stated.
According to informed sources, Netanyahu ordered Mossad and Aman to focus collecting information against Iran in three major directions: the Iranian program on development of ballistic missiles; development of a nuclear weapon; searching for secret facilities where all necessary components for creation of a nuclear bomb are kept.
The problem of nuclear Iran concerns Professor Uzi Even, leading Israeli expert on problems of nuclear energy. “Iran is completely ready for its nuclear tests. Instead of signing the accords and loosing sanctions, the West should analyze real achievements of Iran in the sphere and realize the problem,” Professor Even said.
The former head of the CIA, Michael Hayden shares the position. “Iran is very close to creation of its own nuclear bomb. All our intelligence data confirm this. I don’t see any effective way to stop it and support the signed accords. But let’s be honest at least to ourselves!” Hayden stated.
One of the most informed Israeli journalists Ron Ben Ishai says that pessimism and depression reign in the Israeli Premier’s headquarters. Netanyahu’s environment thinks that Barack Obama will sign the agreement with Iran, despite anything, as he is influenced by a group of people who consider that any confrontation with Tehran should be avoided. According to Israeli experts, America loses its status of a superpower and a leading player in the international arena; this role is now played by Russia. It’s unclear what conclusions will be made from these statements.
