Russian president visits Armenia

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has arrived on a visit to Armenia to participate in an unofficial meeting of heads of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member-countries. Medvedev and his wife were welcomed at Yerevan's ‘Zvartsnots’ airport by Armenian president Serzh Sargsyan and Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. The head of the Honor Guards, Sokrat Vardanyan, presented the Russian president with a brief report. The military orchestra performed the state anthems of Russia and Armenia, RIA Novosti reports.


The Russian president will attend an official dinner at the residence of the Armenian president. On August 20th they will have talks, followed by the signing of documents and a press-conference. The presidents will visit Giumri for an opening ceremony at the Memorial Complex ‘Honor Hill’, where 156 Russian officers who fought in the Russian-Turkish war in the Caucasus in late 19th century are buried.


The Russian president will conclude the visit by participating in the summit of CSTO members on 20-21 August.
