US president to attend Nelson Mandela's funeral

US President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle are going to travel to South Africa to attend the funeral of former president and human rights advocate Nelson Mandela, the spokesman for the White House Jay Carney says.

President Obama has already praised Mandela in a recent address, saying that the former president of South Africa was an example for many politicians and ordinary people around the globe.
