Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe price of Georgian bread has risen, Georgia Times reports, citing interpressnews.ge.
The price in various shops rose by 10 tetri. According to the head of Bread Factory Number 4, Malkhaz Dolidze, this is due to higher prices for flour. The head of ‘Ipkli’, Shakro Bakuradze, said that the price of a bag of flour rose by 15 lari, leading to the price of bread rising by 15 tetri.
Bakuradze said that if the price of flour rises by 1 or 2 more lari, the price for bread will increase by 5 tetri.
The breadmakers said that the price rise is a result of Russia introducing an embargo on wheat exports, due to fires this summer in several Russian regions. The Minister of Agriculture, Bakur Kvezereli, said that there will be no wheat deficit in Georgia.
The minister said that 85% of the country's wheat is imported.
