Turkey estimates the damage from the mass protests

Damage to the economy of Turkey as a result of the mass protests in the middle of this year is estimated at 18 billion lire (about $9 billion), Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said.

 

According to Erdogan, the mass protests that took place in various cities of Turkey from the end of May for three weeks of antigovernment character strongly affected the economy of the country.

 

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Turkey, the protests in 79 provinces of Turkey in three weeks were attended by 2.5 million people. During the riots in Turkey about four thousand people were injured, 4.9 thousand people were detained by the police. Turkish opposition parties accused the police of using excessive force against the protesters, Trend reports quoting Turkey's Sabah newspaper.

 

Recently in Turkey 255 participants of mass protests in the country wete charged with taking part in riots. Among those accused of participating in mass protests in various cities of Turkey there are seven foreign nationals.
