As the result of an accident, about 40 thousand people were without electricity in the Urus-Martan district of Chechnya, reports RIA-Novosti, quoting Timur Taysumov, a spokesman for the regional branch of the Ministry for Emergencies. Altogether, 8670 houses had their power cut. According to Ruslan Sardalov, Chief Engineer of the “Nurenergo" company, the accident was possibly caused by strong winds and rain, which pounded the region overnight.

According to Taysumov, facilities with a twenty-four-hour staff presence, particularly hospitals and boarding schools, are connected to standby power supplies and are functioning normally.
