Sukhumi has hosted a round-table conference on the common media and spiritual space of Russia and Abkhazia. Alexey Vlasov, moderator of the conference, Director of the North-South Center for Political Analysis, Editor-in-Chief of Vestnik Kavkaza, said that reputational losses were inevitable for Abkhazia and Russia in the context of schism in the Abkhaz Orthodox Church.

Alexey Pilko, a senior scientist of the Historic Faculty of the MSU named after M.V. Lomonosov, agreed that success and failure in formation of the Abkhaz state would have an impact on Russia. He said that the conflict of 2008 continued in the media. The goal of Abkhazia and Russia was to win the information war, the expert concluded.

Polina Dolina, an observer of the Religion and Mass Media portal, said that speculations around the topic affected reputation of the country. She said that the schism should be prevented.

Oleg Damenia, Head of the Abkhaz Presidential Center for Strategic Studies, said that there was no simple solution for the complicated religious problem. He noted that Abkhazia would not allow itself to become a target of pilgrimage for other religions. The expert warned that it will be impossible without losses but it was a matter of spiritual protection.
