Former British foreign minister Jack Straw was leading a delegation of lawmakers to Iran on Monday, his office said, as London and Tehran sought to improve diplomatic relations, the Daily Star reports.

The visit by opposition Labour party MP Straw comes two months after Britain and Iran named non-resident envoys, restoring ties which were severed in 2011 after Iranian protesters stormed and ransacked the British embassy in Tehran.

During his visit to Tehran, Straw said that the solution to Syria's problem can be found only with the participation of Iran in Geneva-2.

The international conference on Syria is scheduled for January 22, 2014 and will take place in Switzerland. On January 13 U.S. Secretary John Kerry and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will discuss the questions of the participation of Iran in the Geneva-2 talks which still remains unclear.
