US concerned with unofficial Russian-Iranian deals

Spokesman of the US White House Jay Carney said yesterday that Russia’s purchase of Iranian oil would be a violation of agreements signed by six mediators (five permanent members of the UNSC and Germany) and Iran, ITAR-TASS reports.

US Secretary of State John Kerry expressed the concerns at a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Paris on January 13. Carney noted that existence of the Russian-Iranian oil deal could provoke US sanctions in certain circumstances.

The White House expressed its concerns on January 14.
