SOCAR confirms halt in pumping gas to Russia

Nizameddin Guliyev, spokesman of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR), said that the January 13 halt in the pumping of gas to Russia was temporary and was needed for maintenance work on a pipeline section between Baku and the Russian border.

Azerbaijan was pumping 3 million cubic meters a day, 1.37 billion cubic meters in total. The volume dropped by 31.5% in 2013. Gazprom and the SOCAR signed a contract to purchase Azerbaijani gas in October 2009. Azerbaijan started sending gas to Russia on January 1, 2010. Gazprom and the SOCAR signed a supplement to the contract in January 2012.
