New nuclear block to be built in Armenia

The process of building a new block of the nuclear plant in Armenia is planned to be started in 2012, ARKA reports 
Armenia plans to build a new block with a power capacity of 1000 MWt. It is estimated the project may cost $5 billion.
Deputy Minister of Energy of Armenia Areg Galstian said the new plant will be on a totally new level. It will emit less pollution into the atmosphere, will be in service longer, have an air-defense system and use half the water of the previous models.
It is planned that 5,000 people will take part in the construction of the plant and 800-900 will work there after its launch.
The only nuclear plant in operation right now is the Armenian Nuclear Station. According to specialists it will remain functioning until 2016.
