Pamfilova named new Russian Ombudswoman

Russian President Vladimir Putin has approved Ella Pamfilova as a replacement for Ombudsman Vladimir Lukin, whose term of office ends in February 2014, RIA Novosti reports.Pamfilova was the Minister for Social Protection of the Population in 1991-1994. She stood for president in 2000 and got 1.01% of the votes cast. She chaired the Presidential Council for Assistance to Development of Institutions of Civic Society and Human Rights in 2004-2010.
