Turkey backs formation of Syrian transitional government

Turkish and Italian Presidents Abdullah Gul and Giorgio Napolitano have met in Italy, Trend reports.

Gul noted that Turkey approved the idea to form an effective Syrian transitional government. He also thanked Italy for supporting Turkey in its efforts to join the EU.

The Turkish president will visit the senate of Italy, municipality of Rome. He will then visit Florence.

Italy will chair the EU in the second half of 2014.
