SOFAZ grants $464.1 million for Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan (SOFAZ) has granted $464.1 million for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway, Business Georgia reports.$151.5 million were granted in 2012, $32.7 million in 2013.A 105-km railway branch will be built within the framework of the project. Georgia will reconstruct the Akhalkalaki-Marabda-Tbilisi railway section to increase its capacity to 15 million tons of cargo a year. A facility for the switch from the Georgian to the European railway gauge will be opened in Akhalkalaki.The railway corridor will have a capacity of 17 million tons of cargo a year when launched at full capacity. The line will have a capacity of 1 million passengers and 6.5 million tons of cargo a year.
