Baku does not worry about Russian-Armenia agreement on military base
Read on the website Vestnik KavkazaThe agreement between Russia and Armenia concerning the Russian base in Giumri does not bother Azerbaijan, the deputy head of the department of foreign links of Azerbaijani president’s structure Novruz Mamedov said in an interview to APA agency.
102nd Russian base is located in Giumri is operates within the framework of the United AA System of CIS. On August 20th Russia and Armenia prolonged the agreement, which was signed in 1995 and the agreement will stay in force until 2044. The base is equipped with S-300 AA complex and MiG-29 fighters. 5 000 people serve in the base. The base is providing military security in Armenia. According to the agreement, Russia provides Armenia with modern arms and engineering.
Mamedov said that the world society did not demonstrate any position on the issue. The US Department of State said that it will not interfere. Moreover, Russia is participating in Nagorno-Karabakh settlement process of the Minsk Group.
